@jeffjarvis ethics are generally defined as "shit the people I hate do or don't do" and in 2023, all ethics are racist, sexist, and anti-LGBTQIA+ and are the manifestations of White Supremacy.

@chris @jeffjarvis You have a very different idea of what "ethics" is than I do, or was raised to.Ethical behavior is not about what one person or another proclaims is right: it's about behavior that results in the greatest parity of experience and treatment.Racism is, by its nature, unethical. Same as anti-LGBTQ+ laws are, by their nature, unethical.

@chris @jeffjarvis https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ethicIf you need a definition anyone can double-check.Ethics as a code, in my experience, exists specifically to prevent abuses of power by putting in place a general minimum amount of expected humanity in those who will enforce or create new laws.One can argue that plenty of people live by codes of ethics that justify cruelty. I argue that those codes are not, in themselves, a proper reflection on what ethics are meant to enforce.

Equality is ethical, equity isn't ethical because it, by its very nature, plays favorites and puts thumbs on scales towards a gamed outcome: handincapping.

@chris @jeffjarvis You're arguing that because something can be twisted or lawyered to justify bullshit it, by its own nature, justifies it, and that is just wrong.It's the same logic that leads to people saying things like "because the government can be corrupted government is by its nature a corrupt thing," which... no? And an impractical assertion to make, one that implies that no rules are better than some form of defined rules in place.A code of ethics is needed for the supreme court.

@GuerillaGrue @jeffjarvis I agree with you, but I do not agree if the ethics "for thee and not for me" and "rules for thee and not for me."Like, what about conservatives, Catholics, Christians, Evangelicals, gun owners, heteronormative tribes and communities, etc, etc. If a child come out as born again will you or won't you tell his (atheistic) parents? Also, I believe there are cultural breaks in ethics and morals... and a homogeneous monoculture is racist, misogynist, anti-LGBTQIA+!
