It's interesting how TikTok has lots of videos that use very shaky virtual backgrounds to tell stories - the fact that the background quality isn't great doesn't put people off from using them, and the good videos get millions of viewsUseful reminder that sometimes a feature that you think isn't "good enough" actually IS good enough to be put to use by huge numbers of very creative people

@gabert here's one I enjoyed recently, it uses the effect a few time for the equivalent of presentation slides https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT86kEfhv/

@simonInteresting video! By virtual background do you mean a shaky cam? Indeed like with video games, it doesn't take fancy graphics to make a game endlessly enjoyable!

To clarify, I mean this kind of effect (screenshot from https://www.tiktok.com/@aok.wav/video/7280652369636035886 - a fun video about the 1985 Austrian diethylene glycol wine scandal)

@simon It seems to be a design trend / marketing trend as well: The more amateurish the better

@simon @voxpelli I think — and this might be a meaningless distinction, although I don’t think it is — that it makes things feel less inauthentic
