Reminder that the only safe dummy domains to use are:- example.com- example.net- example.org- example.eduAnd nowadays there's also a safe dummy TLD: .exampleThese are safe because they are reserved by IANA as as special-use domain names for documentation purposes.Any other domain can be registered and as such should _never_ be used as a dummy domain for documentation or as eg. an example in default configs.See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Example.com

@Datenegassie Since the entire .example TLD is safe to use, you can for sure use example.example in your docs 😅 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.example

@tchambers Google pretty much hired all the people who were working on the decentralized social web back then, and then made Google Buzz but mistakenly bundled it into Gmail, got a huge backlash both legally and otherwise from doing so and essentially left the community starved of many of its main contributors without getting any product.Would love to hear the inside story of it all from @chrismessina, @will, Joseph Smarr, @jpanzer etc now years later (and @blaine, David Recordon etc)

@osi Ask Valve, they are together with Google shipping a #SteamDeck / #SteamOS equivalent version of Steam, with #Proton and all, on supporting #ChromeOS devices

@galdor Let’s not conflate the #SSPL license that Elastic switched to with the #BSLLicense. The SSPL is an #AGPL license modified to prohibit competition for eternity. The BSL is a license that turns into a #GPL2 compatible license within at most 4 years and which the creators, @mariadb, created to ensure their proprietary extensions would be as close to OSS as possible and guaranteed to eventually become full OSS.Likewise, @getsentry defaults to non-BSL: https://open.sentry.io/licensing/

@simon It seems to be a design trend / marketing trend as well: The more amateurish the better

@maffeis I like how the #IndieWeb is approaching this with #MicroPub and #MicroSub:* https://indieweb.org/Micropub* https://indieweb.org/MicrosubClients can chose to implement one or both of those.A typical social media app would implement both.An app that’s meant only for authoring posts picks just MicroPub and an app that’s simply meant for consumption picks just MicroSub.I find the #Fediverse / #Mastodon focus on #ActivityPub as the one and only API to be a bit lackluster in that regard.

@simon Pro tip: Sync your 2FA using eg @1password (yeah, it becomes simply OTP then, but OTP is the important part of 2FA)Also: Encrypted chat apps does not always carry over, lost some neat content to that 😞And: Here in Sweden one needs to be wary about BankID, the electronic identification, and it doesn’t carry across either. And you have to re-register your Apple Pay cards, right? And will then get new hidden card numbers for them

@gklka @stroughtonsmith Maybe because it’s a bit hidden? One need to press the logo once or the home feed button twice

@Flipboard @Mastodon Very similar to what eg Google+ did with rel-author and what I worked on implementing into Flattr back the as well. Not sure why rel-author isn’t used 🤔 http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-author

@Flipboard @Mastodon Added a comment about it: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/30398#issuecomment-2204184781It’s sad to not see more cooperation between #Mastodon / #Fediverse and #IndieWebThe latter is focused on social semantics for the web and the former for social semantics for ActivityPub – when the two overlap they should coordinate – and articles are very much web pages and something the #IndieWeb knows best practices around

@art You could use https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/hooks/plugins_api/ to point the plugin API to an alternative endpoint as well

@futurebird No single person should have as much power as the president of USA (and of eg. France) has. It’s not a necessity for a democracy to have this much power in the hands of a single individual. In eg. Germany the president has no powers and in eg UK and the Scandinavian countries there are monarchs instead of presidents and these neither has any power (in UK by convention only, because UK is UK)Few sane persons are willing to take on such a massive responsibility.
