I don't think 'deep sea mining' is a solution to our needs for resources(metals) but rather another form of destruction and pollutionFor me the solution is quite simple but rather expensiveSpace! :blobcatspace: Sure it would take some development but the pay off would be limitlessBesides, it's 2023 and we're still only inhabit the Earth, wouldn't it be time to extend that

@yakumo_izuru That's no issue, we need to start building in space itselfWe don't need it all back on Earth, that would mess up a lot of things :blobcatgiggle:

@stux we're SO overdue for real, actual space exploration and development!

@stux The guys with the money should go set it up. Send Zuck and Musk and Bezos to start.

@stux to be fair. We kinda were slacking as a species between 400 and 1850

@stux agreed...but always consider the space junk (satellite debris) and...Dr Stephen Hawking, after a 900 year revision, only gave humanity another 100 years here...but...You guys are blessings over here! Thank you for keeping this joint alive! Air hugs!

@stux In 1,000 years if humans have cleaned this place up, then yes. :blobfoxdisputed:

@stux Yes! Let's destroy and pollute space! ;)It's our destiny as a species.Well, that or die on earth.

@stux I concur. We just need a stepping stone to the asteroids. After that it will start to become easier.

@pre Uh.. you do know how massive space is? :blobcatgiggle: Earth is super duper mega limited, let's not ruin LEO but other than that it doesn't really "matter"it's literary infinite ➿

@stux @yakumo_izuru It would be pretty bad for the environment to get all of the people and materials into space in order to build something up there (or on another planet). That is a problem that would need to be overcome first imo

@trogluur @yakumo_izuru That would be the cool thing! Let's say... we design a "miner-smelter-printer" whatever machine we can launch into spaceFrom that point the space mine machine can start doing its work and create new mining machines for example or any other thingSo with a minimal launch ship the creator and build from thereSomething like that-ish

@stux Yeah, I think things probably really need to be alive in order to be destroyed and ruined. It being so big is a problem though. Even the nearby stuff ain't really nearby.

@pre Something like that :blobcatgiggle: Or least not contaminate planets or moons that we wanna research in the futureYeahh the distance would be a thing for sure! But also a nice challange for our spiecies

@stux @yakumo_izuru If it could find everything it needs to build stuff wherever we send it, that could work. But we would still need to also send a few people into space if we want to colonize anything. And they'd probably want to visit earth sometimes or the other way around. The planets in our solar system are pretty boring from what I've seen.I did see a kurzgesagt video a about terraforming Mars. Maybe we should do that before sending anyone because it's harder if people live there already

@stux I think if we make it through the next couple hundred years without losing our current technology, we’ll start going to the asteroid belt for resources, but we may not need more stuff for Earth if population doesn't keep rising. There are a lot of resources sitting in dumps right now.

@stux Maybe the first step would be a space elevator in order to avoid air pollution by rockets and maximize material transfer into orbit. Afterwards a scenario like in The Expanse could become realistic, with colonization of the asteroid belt for material resources, and Mars incl. terraforming.

@stux it is so funny to me how billionaires try to corner the “space tourism market”, when the “unlimited resources market” is in the same vicinity

@stux you’re right but we certainly don’t want that to be in the hands of one man. SpaceX needs real competition…
