       Tomorrow is the date for a major set of anti-LGBT marches across Canada.Before COVID-19, these campaigns were led by biker gangs and European style neo-Nazi groups like the Hell's Angels and Soldiers of Odin.Those groups are still involved, but now they also include: - Anti-vax extremists who've spent the last three years threatening our doctors, nurses and teachers;- American-style Christian Nationalist anti-trans terrorists who've been calling in bomb threats to local queer events;- Convoy groups inspired by the US "Jan 6" attacks, who ship themselves into cities to harass their residents, and who have recently attacked BC firefighters;- So called "sovereign citizens" and Qanon-style conspiracy theorists like the followers of Romana Didulo, responsible for various political murders in the US; and-A new movement of fringe Muslim conspiracy theorists who support sex-trafficker Andrew Tate.https://www.antihate.ca/1_million_march_4_children

       These are not protests. These are fascist mobs whose sole purpose is to threaten LGBT people and their allies.Nominally focused on inclusive sex-ed in schools (SOGI), the goal of these conspiracists is to spread the dangerous and inciting lie that transgender and 2SLGBTQ+ persons are pedophiles who are “grooming” childrenThey use a wide variety of language, to speak to a variety of audiences, from normal seeming language around "parents choice" to explicit lies about groomimg and pedophilia.The purpose of these mobs isn't to convince anybody of anything. It's to inspire stochastic terrorism and intimidate politicians with threats of violence.It is not a coincidence that they adopt many strategies from 20th century fascist street gangs, and that their talking points are only slightly updated versions of 20th century anti-Semitic conspiracy theories such as blood libel.

       These campaigns have escalated to the extent that they have, because of our governments refusal to take fascism seriously and the fungibility of targets within fascist conspiracy theories.By not standing up against anti-vax and anti-mask conspiracies during the pandemic, our governments have allowed fascist to organize against LGBT people.By refusing to manage the police, these fascist groups understand that in most cases police will target counter-protestors while refusing to take meaningful action against the real threat.By refusing to teach the history of Antisemitism around World War II, our governments have allowed those exact same conspiracy theories to be repurposed in the 21st century.Standing up against any fascism is standing up against all fascism.Letting any fascism and conspiracy theory slip through the cracks is letting all fascism and conspiracy theory slip through the cracks.

       I don't think there's any point trying to convince the people who've already fallen down the rabbit hole. It's not any of our jobs to try to convince the people who want us dead.I'm immune compromised. Two years ago, these groups were organizing their violent mobs to deny me a basic right to safely access services. Governments sided with them, and they won. And now the fight for my own civil rights is infinitely more difficult.But it's still worth talking about this stuff for different audiences.People who are attending counter-protests need to understand that they're dealing with literal Nazi biker gangs who have and will attack counter-protesters without any interference from the police.And there's normies who are often going to be naive enough to fall for the surface-level anti-SOGI stuff without realizing who is organizing these movements and what their goals are. Because that's the whole strategy.

       If I got anything wrong, let me know.This stuff is important.A lot of the time we forget that the fights for COVID safety and disability rights, the fight for dignified and affordable housing, the fight against LGBT genocide, and the fights for racial and Indigenous freedom are all the same fight.We have the same enemy on all of these issues. We're sometimes divided, but the conspiracy fascists are always united against us.
