If you're a Xfce user, and you happen to also be a Fedora user, may I suggest Lxqt as a possible alternative.Fedora 40 (sometime next year) will be doing away with Xorg and going full Wayland.Xfce has been slow... very slow... To develop for Wayland. How slow? They're the last mainstream desktop shell that still does not have most of their Wayland issues resolved.I am not saying they will never achieve it (it's been years now, though).#Lxqt #Xfce #Linux #Xorg #Wayland #Fedora

" But... but... It is only happening with Fedora KDE "spin." "Enough people know how Fedora Linux development, works.I don't like it when people play PR to mask the details or sugar coat things, so they can claim something isn't yet happening, when the writing is on the wall. The "spins" are released on Fedora's website and officially supported by Fedora (developed by Fedora developers). They're the cup game.If it works, hey, was part of the plan. If it doesn't, they say it was a "spin"

Both Fedora and SUSE have that in common, as does Microsoft. They like to have some clout on how things are perceived.Especially if a change can be viewed as unpopular or may seem a little dramatic or radical. So they put something out that will be used by the masses and claim it isn't official, even though they, themselves, developed it and released it.If it goes over well, they claim it was all part of the plan, and implement it without apology. If not, they claim it wasn't a thing.

It is also why Fedora will be very defensive when people say, they're dropping Xorg supportThey still want that cloud and to control the narrative. They want that ambiguity and possible deniability should it turn out to be a "hot mess"The thing is, enough people have seen this type of PR Game played out before. It's why people are reporting Fedora is dropping Xorg -Because this is their attempt to do soWe've been down this path before (seen this type of PR)#Fedora #Suse #Linux #Microsoft

That all said, I support the idea of any distro migrating to full Wayland. Wayland has been out for 15 years (September 30, 2008) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayland_(protocol)The vast majority of systems and apps, especially the mainstream ones, have implemented either base support or full support. The few that have not yet are likely the developments that are not going to do anything until the change is made -It's time to pull that metaphorical band-aid off.#WayLand #Xorg #Linux

@Linux_Is_Best The main issue with Wayland is that there is not one implementation that everyone uses, and thus, the bugs and issues are multiplied with every desktop environment that uses Wayland. There are many reasons why Xorg should not, and cannot, be abandoned anytime soon. https://gist.github.com/probonopd/9feb7c20257af5dd915e3a9f2d1f2277
