74% of SMEs say they struggle to find qualified staff. Labour shortages hamper innovation, growth and prosperity.Next year, together with the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, we will hold a new Social Partner Summit at Val Duchesse 🇧🇪– almost 40 years after the historic European Social Dialogue meeting. On #DemocracyDay, we are committed to forging a society that is fair, inclusive and full of opportunity. The future of Europe will be built with and by our people.#SOTEU

@EU_Commission How many SME have considered teaming with local community and regional colleges to offer paid apprenticeships? Many SME struggle to find staff because they demand applicants have experience, training, qualifications, etc. that can only come from prior employment in the same job. This is an outdated and unhelpful attitude. If they want staff, they must invest.

@EU_Commission SME dominance of the labor market is a feature of lower-productivity economies, like Italy and Greece. France, Germany, and the Nordic countries all have a mostly big business labor market, with high efficiency; small firms that can't compete with this efficiency can and should go out of business. The EU should offer guidance on how not to be so dominated by inefficient micro-firms (e.g. on how to make sure there is universal tax collection, without Italian/Greek-style dodging).

@EU_Commission Not attaching an analysis of the market conditions and pay ranges with the claim is a bit of a joke.
