They mentioned their existing controller support. Did they say anything about the new USB-C port’s video output support? Will latency be better than video out over Lightning?

@mike I don't think most phones can output video

@EricZhang456 Most tracking devices have the hardware required to output video, alas the proprietary software won't allow that, or the USB-C port isn't wired up correctly to allow for HDMI or DisplayPort over USB-C.

@Suiseiseki @EricZhang456 >mostfactually inaccurate, the USB C ports on most phones are connected to their motherboards via flex cables (cables are hardware) that only have enough conductors to enable USB 2 mode connections

@benis Yes, note the part where I noted: "or the USB-C port isn't wired up correctly".Signal integrity over flex cables isn't that great, but they will carry a 1080p DisplayPort signal just fine.

@Suiseiseki so you admit to having defeated your own point in the same post you made it. Thanks, I shall now take my leave and wish on you a good day, sir

@EricZhang456 i found that they do have support for it — I see this on the 15 Pro’s tech specs page:> Video mirroring and video out support: Up to 4K HDR through native DisplayPort output over USB-C or USB-C Digital AV Adapter (model A2119; adapter sold separately)https://www.apple.com/iphone-15-pro/specs/No idea if there is latency like the Lightning video output has, though.

@EricZhang456 @mike iPhones have had video out for ages, and most mid-range up Android phones do, too. I have occasionally used the lightning-hdmi adapter to show presentations when other hardware crapped out.

@trezzer @mike My Pixel 4 doesn't have video out, but it is a 4-year-old phone
