I just realized that since I signed up here, I've had almost twice as many people follow me than I had on the birdsite (since 2007). Hello all you lovely people ❤️. The best thing is that you still get responses from people who don't even follow you, so it rarely feels like shouting into the void as it did over there. The #Fediverse sure seems like the more social social media, huh?

@killyourfm You monster, Jason! I, too, play inverted but ONLY when appropriate (i.e. when flying and at no other time!)

@selea Remember: If a single pikmin dies, it means you have to start over! Enjoy.

@killyourfm Can't wait. Still need to figure out a good way of making inserts, but I am definitely making a new disc label :)

@ParadeGrotesque Eh, don’t worry too much. They duck everything up internally these days, so they don’t do so much damage outside it.

@EricZhang456 @mike iPhones have had video out for ages, and most mid-range up Android phones do, too. I have occasionally used the lightning-hdmi adapter to show presentations when other hardware crapped out.

Haiku OS is probably the most fun OS to use today. Great looking, super-fast, excellent documentation of OS features, friendly community. If hardware support were a bit better, I'd be happy daily driving this beauty. #Haiku #HaikuOS #AlternativeOS #OSS

So, I am about to fire up a trial for Crunchyroll. 3 months but no idea if what to watch. Recommendations? Things I've enjoyed include Haruhi Suzumiya, Excel Saga, Evangelion, Gurrenn Lagann, Cowboy Bebop, most things Ghibli, everything Satoshi Kon, Mushishi, Memories, Escaflowne, Berserk, Gunbuster, Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost in the Shell. Good sci-fi/dark stories/anthology shows/feel-good/slice of life, I guess. #anime #crunchyroll

@Wolven Having never heard about the sauce, I found this write-up interesting. A bit of history, a bit of how McD went about it and a little review with a dash of cynicism. https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2023/10/12/mcdonalds-mambo-sauce-review-black-culture/

Today I lost my favourite little buddy in the world, Luki. Always happy. Always surprisingly smart and the most empathic dog I've ever met. After picking him up at the shelter he was a light in our lives every day. 10 years isn't a whole lot for this race, but it stings a little extra because we didn't have him for the first couple. This pic was the last one I took of him and I'm going to miss that sight so much today 😭. Rest in peace, little buddy. The very, very best boy. #dogsofmastodon

I pulled the shrink wrap off this baby today and... the drive failed to read any discs at all, so we watched an inferior streaming version :(

Seems like Epic Games Store is doing the Christmas thing again. New free game every day. Currently Art of Rally and a new one in 8 hours. #freegames #epicgames

Here's a question for people who know #Berlin well: Are there some interesting tv/film/animation-related places to visit with a group of (generally) 18+ students who are into art, anime, film, tv etc.? It should be able to fit around 25 people. It can be anything from production companies to exhibits, museums, schools and so on. I have found a few things but so far worry that they are a bit superficial and maybe geared more towards families, so any input is welcome.

@futurebird Shoot, put a human driver in there and triple the capacity and you have… a better solution: The buses we already have.

@futurebird Ah yes. Like a certain Chinese electric vehicle brand that recently had cars stuck on a ferry because they couldn’t unlock the doors as the key server couldn’t be reached. Brakes are the obvious next thing to control remotely. Connectivity and lag are, after all, entirely solved problems.

Dug out a VHS tape with Now That’s What I Call Music 14 and have been playing it for about an hour. The quality varies wildly. Honestly, I can’t say I enjoyed most of the song selections, but I enjoyed the experience of just watching a tape of music. I wish I had more.

I’m about to finally get my act together and move my little-used Google Workspace account elsewhere. Is there anyone who would recommend something other than Protonmail for mail? I have file storage covered and don’t need calendars. I want to use a custom domain and a way to use IMAP clients is just about a must. #askfedi

Managed to put the new Pi music player together before leaving work today. Got it set up with remote control and a quick test of playback. Next stop: Speaker mounting and figuring out if I should bet on physical security through obscurity by making it not easily visible or using a moderately long RCA cable. What’s a reasonable cable length with decent quality cables?

Does anyone know of an end-to-end encrypted alternative to Backblaze with reasonable prices and either clients for multiple OSes or compatibility with standard tools?
