@Wolven the taboo of not sharing salary exists to protect employees and management because otherwise shit like this is obvious.At an old job one team sat around the break room and discussed salaries, and found out that one woman with the same experience as her male teammates was making a significant amount less. She never would have known without us discussing it, and was able to contest it. She brought it up to HR and initially the fuckers defended it. Black women get double screwed.

@Wolven@anildash This is another reason why workers need to trust one another and share their compensation details.Companies use our own secrecy against us and minority groups get the worst of it.

Also the claimed salaries sound high, many tech workers have been downsized out of work in the last year. It's unlikely that Google has to pay $700,000 for software engineers. Further, if true Google - by undercutting some workers - would be opening themselves up to a massive, historic class-action discrimination lawsuit. Will stand corrected but doubt they are that careless.

"Voluntary data" applies to how one conducts a survey to obtain the data that makes the spreadsheet.Those refer to two different things.You also seem to think the assertion is that google is like, knowingly and intentionally doing this, instead of finding patters of systemic bias playing out within their operations.The mere fact that they were made aware and forced to pay recompense for one form systemic prejudicial bias, does not imply that they were then, somehow, completely aware of ALL forms of systemic prejudicial bias at play within their organization.Have a good one.

If info is voluntarily provided it probably does not have to be leaked. That looks like a glitch in the credibility of the article.I'm not saying it wouldn't happen, Google or any employer. This one doesn't add up from the elements presented. The reader is supposed to just trust the assertion. As I mentioned, will stand corrected if it turns into something.
