Google's new HIGHLY INVASIVE ad monitoring and selling framework is now live in Chrome and it defaults to ON so you MUST ACTIVELY OPT OUT.We all know this is bad, but here's how to do it:Settings>Privacy & Security>Ad Privacy>disable these 3: Ad Topics, Site-suggested Ads, Ad MeasurementTo be clear, this is for desktop AND MOBILE versions of chrome.

@Wolven Might also be worthwhile to note that this has to be done for each profile. It's not a global setting. The global setting is in Add/Remove Programs -> Google Chrome -> Uninstall.

@Wolven @jefuf Why say “if possible”? I see no reason whatsoever why anyone needs to be on Facebook. There are many alternatives. Both mask and Zuckerberg are threats to our national security and our democracy and it’s pretty clear that is their intent. Oligarchs in waiting.

@Wolven And to think that Google #Chrome has for many a moon been the number 1 #browser. This can only spell trouble, and one would hope a large-scale move away from Chrome.Turning off all ads may work in the short-term. How long before this option malfunctions or is removed entirely. Will users move away to #Edge or #Firefox or #Safari, or stick with #Chrome as they like it?#Chrome #Browser

@Wolven google's progression has been:"don't be evil"to"don't get caught being evil"to"screw it, full evil it is"the combination of US capitalism, high tech, and a non-subscription/product revenue streams seems to inevitably barrel downwards to a privacy nightmare for users. we really need comprehensive data privacy laws in the US. CCPA was a start but only in CA. we need federal regulation with real teeth and consequences thare are more than a rounding error in one quarter's profits.

@Sandrew It's still tracking you literally everywhere, centralized at google, and then used and sold to advertisers to "personalize" your ads. It's on by default for many users, and not well described or publicized to help people understand it.

@Wolven It would help to have a reference that employees could use to educate those who set the policy on which browsers are required so policies can be revised. In 2023 we have many browser options which have strong support for web standards so there is almost no reason to be stuck with any one browser. We should not be back sliding to the time of the Browser Wars when IE6 was so dominant and web developers did not bother supporting other browsers.

@Wolven Topics seems well abstracted, collection is by the browser, not Google servers, advertisers won't know where you've been, just that you may be interested in less than a handful of topics, which change, & can include a random one you're not interested in.Contrast that limited info with current (actually invasive) tracking whereby advertisers literally know which Websites you've visited.Of course Google themselves already know where you've been if you're logged into Chrome, use Maps, etc
