@anderspuckI used to think all countries registered their own citizens. In reality, many countries cannot even provide a reliable population count.I think we Danes often forget how our ultra regulated society is only possible because our country is so small and homogenous.If we were an American state, we would only rank 21st in population count.Now imagine doing military inventory across the 3,031 individual county jurisdictions of the US.

@randahl Sure, but these are not handguns or 5.56 ammunition. I expect the Americans to know how many airplanes they have, and this is roughly in the same ballpark.

@anderspuck @randahl But then there is not the one homogenous US Army. Several national guards probably operate this. Then some defense research organizations and possibly some reserve depot something something. Or it is a white lie. Either way it's good news.

@elpolacodesplegado @randahl It’s good news or a bad excuse. I’d think these missiles have bar codes to make sure you always know exactly where each individual missile is located, what kind of maintenance is done etc.

@anderspuck @randahl Germany had a scandal recwntly where the Commander of the Special Forces Command (KSK) was unaware of a second ammunition depot he owned. His staff had kept it from him. Barcode or not. A lot of stuff can disappear in a military organization.

@anderspuck @randahl probably a SAP update in the meantime.A friend of mine worked as a SAP consultant for a big Swedish furniture company... which by her account is a logistical shitshow. The different "parts" of this company (e.g. kitchen or beds...) all have their own system.So that the corporate functions don't know anything about the real stock of products.My point is: if a profitable business has problems with this, why shouldn't be the sluggish military bureaucracy.
