@troed "Meanwhile" being March 23. A lot has happened since then. Again, no evidence. Just old random quotes taken out of context. I gifted you a pay wall article. Take it and read it.

@troed So Russians write Latin now? Try American spelling. Again, pet theories is what you peddle by using outdated press quotes. You cherry pick information and ignore current facts. But who is Der Spiegel, but a Marxist/Putinist outlet? Yet again, read the thing before you opine.

@anderspuck @kevinrothrock @Loukas It becomes a hard number in the German political debate. Since Germans is a strong believer in transfer payments there will be large consensus to continue payments in the billions. Not just for arms, but to keep the country running at all. European arms manufacturers are setting up factories in Ukraine. Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands are giving F-16s. The weights may shift, but the West will not cease to help.

@anderspuck @randahl But then there is not the one homogenous US Army. Several national guards probably operate this. Then some defense research organizations and possibly some reserve depot something something. Or it is a white lie. Either way it's good news.

@anderspuck @randahl Germany had a scandal recwntly where the Commander of the Special Forces Command (KSK) was unaware of a second ammunition depot he owned. His staff had kept it from him. Barcode or not. A lot of stuff can disappear in a military organization.

@Penelope But his daddy made his money with apartheid slave labor. He's white, so naturally, he's entitled to tell brown people to shove it. Or so he thinks. All this "genius self-made billionaire" legend boiled down to being born rich to slave labor money. I am astonished that some people still believe his BS.

@anderspuck @rvps2001 But spinning that theory further: Kinzhal is rare and expensive too. It will most likely be used against very valuable targets. And high-value assets will be defended by your best systems. But you are right in that there will always be more to defend than you have systems to defens with.

@anderspuck @Paladin @rvps2001 True. But MiG-31Ks are harder to come by and have to fly at high altitude making them detectable for early warning radars. No one is taking Kinzhal lightly, but the biggest deficit in Europe is currently with Army Organic Air Defense and more run of the mill threats like helicopters and low flying jets. Ukraine is better posture in that area than any European nation.

@anderspuck Eventually you need more than a brigade on that other side. The basic measurement for each unit would be days of supply (DoS). 3 DoS would equal x amount of ammo, fuel, food, spare parts. Technically you can supply them via helicopter and/or air drop too. The latter would be under extreme risk though. Let me see if I can find a document on DoS rates for different types of units.

@anderspuck Tried to find a quick answer. A lot of papers talking about formulas for the calculation of DoS expenditure, but they are highly dependent on troop type etc. With things ranging from water to food, ammo and fuel I guess it is properly somewhere upwards of 200 tons per day. But I'm not a logistician.

@Volf @anderspuck @randahl There is overlap in some policy fields (consensus for military spending). But things such as ACA or the infrastructure spe di g program have Congress very divided.

@kravietz Growing up Polish in West Germany, this was exactly the role Germans attributed to us. Down to the little rhyme "Heut gestohlen, schon in Polen" (Just stolen today, already in Poland). The question remains how theatrical a national response looks like. Maybe now that adults have returned to run Warsaw, the policy will be aimed at long-term effects instead of broad brush blockades. The desired aim should be the integration of Ukraine into the EU. If Orban hasn't destroyed it til then.

@kravietz We agree on that. However, slow institutional growth and European integration have made Poland a proper and respected player. You don't hear the legend of the "lazy Pole who stole my job" anymore. Reputation is quite the opposite nowadays. That's what I meant when I hoped that Tusk would take it back from the MaPoGA crowd and bring it to the diplomatic sphere. At least Ukranian media talk about it. I want to believe that their intent to clean house is sincere.

@Free_Press The official wording is "traversed into Polish airspace and left after three minutes." It looks like bad routing (Russian default) on the part of the Russian Cruise Missile planners. If it had impacted in Poland, we would be seeing the call for NATO Article 4 consultations.

@kravietz You cannot make this shit up. The picture of Jesus holding the Soviet flag with Ballistic Missiles and S-400 TELs in the background takes the cake.
