It’s always worth reminding yourself about the entwining of the far right with “natural” foods, a back-to-the-land approach, traditional crafting etc. https://www.politico.eu/article/germany-bio-nazis-go-green-natural-farming-right-wing-extremism/

@ianbetteridge Germany always had an unique hodge-podge of rational and anti-rational ideologies mixed up in complex relations between them. One example is antroposophy, which significantly influenced modern “organic”, “natural”, anti-nuclear, anti-GMO etc movements and had both supporters and opponents among Nazis, depending on whether they preferred to interpret it as “Jewish/pacifist/liberal conspiracy” or as “return to Heimat”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthroposophy#History

@secbox I think you’re conflating the far right with globalised capitalism. The two things are not the same (and sometimes the far-right is profoundly anti-capitalist, desiring a controlled economy or one based on kleptocracy, oligarchy or simply a return to a form of feudalism)

@ianbetteridge The contradiction is unavoidable as long as we resort to the reductionist dychotomy of “left vs right” - I very much recommend reading the 1920’s NSDAP 25 points program, as it’s a bit of an eye opener - it’s equally composed of both nationalist and socialist postulates. As result, it’s not that “sometimes the far-right is profoundly anti-capitalist” which sounds like a paradox, it’s simply that the very concept of “far right” today is completely misguided and used primarily in tribal sense rather than to describe a complex, multi-variate political phenomena that we deal with today. @secbox
