       I got my feathers ruffled over an insensitive passage in a children’s Holocaust book, so I wrote a rant on goodreads. The books is by a children’s author in collaboration with the survivor’s son. The context is, two Ukrainian Jewish girls (Zhanna and Frina) escape death at Drobitsky Yar. They survive in occupied Ukraine and then Germany in a performing troupe, being piano prodigies. Here is the passage:“For a few short hours/ the world’s greatest composers/Lifted the Jewish girls and Nazi officers/to the same lofty plane/ high above the hatred and horrors of war./  The music reminded them all / what it felt like to be human again.”WTH? What twisted mental gymnastics turn this scene in which two Jewish girls face constant threat of death into a moment of shared humanity with Nazis?        @alter_kaker @littlemiao I am letting my 10yro son read my copy of Maus (he asked to; I suspect he is going to run away screaming from it fairly soon and not want to look at it again anytime soon).  But that's one of the few I am okay with.  I really don't know many others I would actually trust.

       @raf @alter_kaker @littlemiao It's also nonfiction,  It's Art's autobiography about his family, and him trying to cope with the reality of his family history, and his mothers suicide, and why they loved his brother more, as it were.You know he shared all his audio recordings of his interviewing his father about, well, everything.
