@mattl As long as we do not end up with Windux, I will be happy to give credit to the GNU/FOSS team as part of the linux platform momentum.I will leave branding decisions to others. But linux would not be a viable platform without lots of contributions from people not named Linus.

Also a reminder to my enemies and haters — GNU and the FSF used to call it Linux too. Only later did they get the brain worm and start being the absolute worst about naming. I’m also fairly sure everyone at the FSF just would call it Linux if it wasn’t a cult.

@mattl #linux distributions are collectively called linux, because they all have the linux kernel. #Alpine linux doesn't have #gnu and #Void makes GNU optional.Should we call our distros GNU/Linux/Systemd/Grub/Gnome?Of course not, that's dumbBut then we exclude ChromeOS and Android. Whether or not something is linux is down to an arbitrary philosophy.That being said, the GNU approved distros (GNU guix, hyperbola, etc) I would probably refer to them as gnu distros or GNU/Linux distros.

@zbecker @mattl #Linux is both a #kernel and an idea. The idea of a free #operatingSystem, abiding some concepts. What a #distro is called is up to the distributors. If that bothers you, write a license agreement that addresses this.We should really ask ourselves why we're even having this Linux vs. GNU/Linux debate. Is it about GNUs visibilty? Is it about being more precise with our naming? Or is it about putting yourself above others? I have a strong feeling it's no. 3 for too many people.
