@lauren So FWIW, at least there are several #Mastondon servers for people to choose from. Some people have spun up their own.Also, this reminds me of the issue of college course lecture videos being unavailable because no captions, so if not good for all, must be banned for everyone.This is a familiar pattern, and it has to do with people, not technology or platforms.But those who run the platforms, and participate in them, can help make it better. Or not.

If I followed someone from another instance, and the admin of that site had blocked that person, I'd hope #Universeodon would let me know.Got a notify today about a suspicious follower request.It's better than being at the mercy of Elon Musk, I can say that for sure.

@lauren But it does beg the question, why would someone be on an instance that blocked them ? Can't they move to another instance ?I'm not sure I completely understand, but I think we mostly agree. I don't want anyone muted, without an audit trail and notifications.

@mattl As long as we do not end up with Windux, I will be happy to give credit to the GNU/FOSS team as part of the linux platform momentum.I will leave branding decisions to others. But linux would not be a viable platform without lots of contributions from people not named Linus.

@Bernard @Mer__edith Kind of a tangent to my intended point though.I can't depend on a "service" where I, as a US person, am subject to what Modi decides he wants Apple to do, "or else".What if that foreign government has a law that says "you have to hand over all the info you have on all your customers, anytime we want, regardless of where they live" ?Is that really a viable communication medium for anything other than advertising ?
