       Here's a thought while I play a 55 year old record Vinyl records will outlive all other media formats won't they They've already outlived tape and cd which were supposed to replace them If you store a vinyl record properly it would still play in a thousand years What other music format can do that? Can music on a hard drive hope to last that long?Can an MP3 last a thousand years?#vinyl#programming

       @Archie8 My biggest part of my collection are vinyl, followed by CD, then cassette.  Vinyl will outlast the rest, but if taken care of, CD rot can be prevented, or at least slowed down by a lot. I also rip all CDs to digital file, then move the files to new hard drives every 3 to 5 years. I still have mp3s from the mid 90s XD

       @gnitro It's a worry isn't it because once all music is stored on hard drives we could lose it all through a virus or a failure

       This recording of Aretha's voice, at the moment exists in multiple physical formats like tapes, records and cd's and also as files on hard drives The physical copies will eventually all disappear though. It gets thrown away. I suspect most of it already has been. Here's the big question.How are we saving our greatest music so our future generations can listen to it in 1000 years? #vinyl#programming #tech
