OK, deleted all filesystem snapshots, deleted some applications, and moved 30 GB of 4K video (from my YouTube videos) to my NAS...

OK, I now can shrink up to 50 GB for Linux... I think 30 GB should be fine. Hm. In theory, even less.

Linux should take no more than 200 MB, @sindastra, and I’ve dual booted two GNU/Linux on a 60 GB laptop before, so 30 GB not exactly impractical. Just don’t use nix/guix/flatpak/snap and thou should be good to go.

OK, the default install works, but I don't like it. I will wipe it again, and do a custom install with full volume encryption and Btrfs. 😆 I might even port Ubuntu...

@xarvos, i typed i, not @sindastra, and @sindastra didn’t mention the arch either so i’m rather confused where macos comes in to play here

@xarvos, cuz i was responding to @sindastra's doubt about whether 30 GB to be enough, with citation to my past experience in "production" of it indeed having being enough?

Fair enough, @xarvos, although 15 GB is rather typical for system files. Other distros installer would unpack to 4 to 8 GB, adding a few common packages (CJK fonts, communication and multimedia and games) and user files and cache one can easily double that. 15 GB seems to be a reasonable minimum recommendation.I had system-on-a-8GB-stick for school before and got to be quite space-conscious all the time. The laptop I mentioned was my only machine from 2013 to 2018 with 20-25-15 GB partition for main OS, shared home and distro hopping respectively and it was fine (my music collection was a lot smaller then). @cnx @xarvos It doesn't actually need 15 GB, it's a lot less. I think what they mean is that it's the minimum to reasonably have space to use left. It wasn't clear at first, and I thought it actually consumes that much. PS The architecture is arm64 ("Apple Silicon"), so it's actually an embedded device. It needs a special kernel for now, and other special things. It's not yet fully upstreamed.
