LGBT+ So, if there's a plus, implying more letters, we don't have to add more letters, right? So, I guess we can slim it down to: L+ Actually, let's just do: + In fact, this is the new flag: 🇨🇭

Can anyone recommend a #FOSS #wiki #software with low maintenance? This means something like an automatic or one-lick updater. MediaWiki is a pain with manual file replacements and db updates.

How to ACL on Linux filesystems? It's easy: Don't. 😆

@duponin I'm dealing with ACL, seems it's not possible to set a default user/group for new files with ACL. But at least I can set default permissions, so that's a start.

Dear KeePass* users, where do you store your database and how do you sync it across devices? I'm currently storing mine in iCloud (E2EE enabled), and if I need access on Android or Linux, I simply use Syncthing, using my Mac as server. I'm curious what other people have as setup! :D

It says on my profile: 6.9K posts. It doesn't show the actual number. I will never know when to expect 7K...

The thing that bothers me most about Windows, is how applications are installed from "wherever". If you need to boot an old Windows machine, you can't just run a command to update the whole thing.

I think I finally have a way to explain the difference between a tech nerd and a techbro to normal people! Tech nerds are those who *could* build Aperture Science (have the scientific/technological understanding). Techbros are those who *would* build Aperture Science if they could (no regard on whether you should and whether ethics would allow it, the point is to do tech because ??? and probably some financial motivations). 😆

No, but seriously. All the tech nerds I know have a deep *actual* understanding of technology, but also have some understanding on ethics, privacy, security, consequences of things... Techbros on the other hand, seem to have a superficial understanding on technology, they see just the shiny parts and want more of it, and to sell it. Ethics? Privacy? Security? Consequences? No, they just want shiny things because they're shiny and they can probably sell them. I think that's the difference. 🤔

And unfortunately, it seems the amount of techbros in the tech industry has grown over the years. I think it's just that "tech" is very profitable, so everyone's jumping on the bandwagon for profit. Not because they're passionate or want to create anything good. Back when tech was a niche, and not seen as profitable, you had the nerds do it. It was better IMO. There was actually thought that was put into things. Now it's just business for the most part. So much for capitalistic innovation.

It makes sense for Hetzner to offer IPv6-only servers. But why don't they provide a tunnel or something to access the IPv4 internet from the server? I'm fine with serving over IPv6-only, but it e.g. happened in the past that I couldn't install some software because some repo was IPv4-only. #Hetzner #IPv6

Oh and, #GitHub was (and, I think, still is), IPv4-only... so you can't pull things from there, either.

Someone, please set up a Mastodon instance with mastodon dot social as subdomain, in a phishing style but make it painfully obvious so that it's funny, then actually roll with it as an actual instance and compete against the big instance. 😆
