I'd love to see someone who attends both #Defcon and #CCCamp (or the Chaos Communication Congress, one of 'em) to write a blogpost highlighting the differences in hacking culture.Would be a pretty tight flight and sleeping plan though, but it sure as hell would be an interesting read!

@Natanox The DefCon of today is nothing like the DefCon of the early 2000s or the late 1990s. I stopped bothering in the early twenty-teens. It's not "horrible", it's just not the same social situation it used to be. Now it's more like "Edgy LinkedIn for Hardcores", and even the notion of "hardcore" has changed A LOT in 25-30 years.

@lorq @Natanox It's the careerists now. None of these people even know what a VAX is.

@mayonesa @Natanox True. They don't "build their own" (not in the way that I'm thinking anyway), or speak assembler, or build red or blue or brown boxes anymore. But hey!, good news!, many of them speak JavaScript or Swift, or Go... until the IDE on their MacBook crashes and they're helpless. Dunno. It's evolution, and it's different, and I can accept those differences..., I'm just harder to impress as I get older I guess. Call me Captain Cranky Bits....

@lorq @Natanox Evolution includes a loss of abilities. I like the hobbyist view better than the careerist one... there is more of a love of the possibilities of technology, less of a fetish.
