Recieved my “fix” kit from Mophie for my 3-in-1 travel charger. Mine only had intermittent issues and I’m somewhat impressed (or puzzled) that it is a software issue!

@matt Last year, I dealt with a hardware issue on my Philips Hue recessed lights that would faintly glow when turned to 0% brightness. After months of exchanging them, calling electricians and talking with CS and going on Reddit, it turns out they got a firmware update to fix it.And I worry for those people who couldn't see the issue because it affected 100% of the product line. But hey, it's now a thing of the past.

@TheChrisGlass heh, I'm familiar with that one too. For whatever reason, that made some sense to me since somewhere along the line there is code that runs to control the thing. This is just a "dumb" charging taking electrons from one place and putting them someplace else LOL. (I guess it really isn’t…)

@matt Oh yeah, but I just figured that the code for these things would've been the first thing they checked in some kind of hardware QA internally. But yeah, electronics get complicated quickly now. Even a simple surge protector is complicated. (And also the bane of cruise ships)

@TheChrisGlass @matt the TSA reject working security at Port Canaveral a few years ago would agree strenuously with your characterization of surge protectors/power strips. Or as he said "izzat a multi plug, bud?"

@smartwatermelon @matt It's amazingly frustrating how so many, including those in security, equate multi-taps to surge protection.

@TheChrisGlassWhat's this? I've never been on a cruise but thinking about it? No power strips? @smartwatermelon @matt

@PhilGastwirth @TheChrisGlass @matt https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/guest-services/prohibited-items/I've had good luck with these but be prepared to lose them if port security is being aggro. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084GZPHJ9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

@smartwatermelon yikes, I travel with multiple small surge protectors and extension cords typically. Glad I saw this.

@PhilGastwirth one thing you can do is get a Euro to US adapter and plug it into the 240V outlet that’s always present in cruise ship cabins. Most of those adapters also have USB ports. One of those, one of the three-plug taps I linked above, and something else with USB ports ought to set you up.

@PhilGastwirth @smartwatermelon Yeah. Cruise ships have 60v on each line, not 120v on one, so a surge protector being triggered basically causes a fire as it would dump the surge down a live wire. The problem is not enough people know if their device has surge protection or not. Many conflate power strip with surge protection, which they're most definitely not. But when it comes to security, it's easier to play it safe.I have a Monster one I love, but for cruises, I use a cruise-specific one.

@smartwatermelonWhat type of plug is the 240v outlet. Can you show me what you use? I would hate to buy the wrong adapter.

@PhilGastwirth something like https://www.amazon.com/European-Adapter-TESSAN-International-Adaptor/dp/B07YDF8GCT/Most devices can auto-negotiate the voltage; this device converts the EU plug to US and adds a couple of USB ports.
