       I just made the mistake of joining a FB synth group. Fuck me - at least 80% SYNTH CLARKSONS / sealions. I left it straight away.One sealion was asking why people use polysynths when organs and pianos are available. Obviously thinks he's hilarious, reeling in unwitting Clarksons, foaming at the mouth at the denigration of JP8s.This place makes the Synthtopia comments page look like the First International. I hate men. Is there anything they can't fucking ruin and suck the joy out of?

       @Jyoti I truly despise the gatekeeping that comes along with a lot of these groups. I have tried to join multiple local and online groups that I thought would be welcoming, but it ended up being 90% ‘there is only one right way to do this using this one specific piece of gear’. I agree that it really sucks the joy out of creating. I got to point that if people were spouting off ‘only one right way’ I’d try the opposite to see what happens.

       @CCirco It's fucking bullshit, innit? The most awful thing is that the loudest voices in those circles are often the least productive musically, so they're not even speaking from experience. Whereas, most actual working musicians I know are the most evangelical, the most inclusive people! Music is the BEST thing ever - why would anyone want to gatekeep it??

       @Jyoti Yes! The collectors and GAS enthusiasts take over. Limiting how others create is just so asinine. Even in the techno community/scene the amount of people trying to pigeonhole what ‘actual techno’ is makes my head hurt. All they have to do is look at the progression of techno over the past 20 years and it is sooo varied, yet we have people saying it is only one type of sound. Ridiculous!I could rant on, but overall I feel your pain.

       @CCirco @Jyoti As an old fart from the 80s, I’m always shocked by the myriad genre names that appear in Wikipedia. Such a weird obsession to have to categorise all music into some grand taxonomy, defining exactly what it is.
