What's the deal with the @ScottishGreens aversion to district heating? @lesleyriddoch has been speaking about it as being normal across Europe, for years. I keep waiting for it to be discussed as an option here, but we just get middle class solutions that aren't doable by most people, being touted. How does a ground source heat pump work if you live in a tenement or if you can't afford to insulate your stone built cottage? I'd like to use the excess heat from industry more, but how?

@CloudyMrs @ScottishGreens @lesleyriddoch Indeed, the misinformation surrounding heat pumps is ridiculous. The great and the good espousing the use of heat pumps in much colder climates than Scotland. No mention of the fact that the majority of these colder climates have houses with superior build quality and insulation.

@Roadwarrior29 @CloudyMrs @ScottishGreens Heat pumps are great if you have a house. There is no easy way to install them in tenements, hence the suggestion of using District heating, which, on the mainland of Europe is used to heat tenements

@CloudyMrs @kim_harding @Roadwarrior29 @ScottishGreens I am hoping that the Queen's Quay district heating system in Clydebank will prompt more local authorities to explore large scale heat pumps, but there should be national leadership on this from the Scottish Government.https://heatsource.org/case-studies/queens-quay-district-heating-network

@drgeraint @kim_harding @Roadwarrior29 @ScottishGreens Leadership would be nice. Leaving anything to Local authorities produces really variable results. Eg Borders Council's 20mph rule for all towns vs Aberdeenshire Councils absolute rejection of imposing any kind of additional restriction on motorists.
