       Converting derelict office space into residences will cost a lot of money and the government will have to pay it: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jul/30/us-small-business-office-workers-gene-marks The government must do this, because otherwise millions of people will be unable to find any place to live.

       @rms The government could simply (zone) permit the offices to be used for residences (mixed use?), and I’d expect the building owners would make the investment to convert in order to get *some* rent, instead of none.
