@CoralineAda I asked the anecdote-led confusing question at the end of your excellent #FOSSY2023 talk on #opensocialcompactI thought of simpler way to ask it:Most people are accustomed to retributive justice and thus constrict defensively when any of their conduct gets flagged. How can we acclimate people to #restorativejustice such that they can keep a more collaborative, appreciative mindset when complaints about their conduct arise? If that's not clearer, I'll think of another wording…

@wolftune Ehmke's widely disseminated code of conduct document, the Contributor Covenant, is explicitly anti-feminist and reinforces sexism. I find it incredibly concerning that this person is considered a champion of justice. Not yet published article on the matter:https://files.feministwiki.org/s/H5xSGbCbCcdFXNcI suppose, when an industry is thoroughly male-dominated like IT is, it's easy for yet another male person to appoint themselves the unelected figurehead of "progress" in that industry, and people will platform them left and right so as to seem progressive themselves. It's a lot like greenwashing.

@taylan I wish Mastodon more easily allowed me to switch your reply to private to then clarify our mix of shared-views / misunderstandings / differences without the tension of public engagement. It's just so easy for people to react constrictively to contentious public discussion.I'll do my best to address your immediate points, and maybe further clarification can be private. I imagine you feel constricted about my asking Coraline a question, you might think I'm more deferential than I am…

@taylan I hesitated to make the question public, but seemed innocuous enough.I had/have some skepticism about OpenSocialCompact and do not defer to or use the Contributor Covenant. I found Coraline's presentation far better than expected and demonstrating humility, curiosity, careful thought, good intentions, and some intriguing ideas. My question is sincere about RJ, and I'm doubtful Coraline has a good answer, but if she does, I hope to hear it.I'm interested in ideas over ad hominem…

@taylan you said> the Contributor Covenant is explicitly anti-feministIdeas some see as anti-feminist doesn't make "explicit". "Explicit" would be an actual statement of opposition to feminism.> this person is considered a champion of justiceI might share more of your concern than you guess> appoint themselves the unelected figurehead of "progress"…In this case, Coraline at FOSSY (progressive community conference, not corporate) was just yet another speaker, no particular authority…
