At 6 miles and 1600ft of elevation, it's one of the easiest hikes for the view payoff in the area. You can add 600ft of elevation to go to the ridge above the lake & get some really incredible views of the mountains that separate the area from the city of Ouray. The road up is rough, but not by Colorado standards.

In b4 any complaints:Dogs are allowed off leash in this area. Despite that, my dog was only unclipped for ~45 seconds while I took a close up flower photo because my essential tremor makes things hard enough as is to get a not blurry image. The second I looked up and saw he veered 15 feet off trail, I recalled him, snapped this photo as he ran back, and re-leashed him. My dog's footprint is astronomically a smaller detriment to the environment compared to human footprints.
