@namvoo the grief never diminishes. Over time, the life that holds the grief gets larger, and contains more than the grief.

@namvoo You don't get over it, you just learn to deal with it. Let yourself grieve. Pray. Vent your frustrations in a workout. Have a drink with some friends.

@namvoo you rest easy knowing that by loving them, knowing they would go first, that you agreed to carry the pain with you, sparing them of it. We suffer so that they can live their lives in peace and love. We weep because we spared them that sadness.

@namvoo Cry unashamedly, really hard. That's what I did, and then I felt better the next day and just had good memories of my dog

Make him some sort of tomb stone or something. I have my deceased kitties paw prints in clay on my desk.

@namvoo Had that dog longer than my woman at that point and when I had to put it down it was like my life before my woman was dying. It sucked

@namvoo some years ago one of my best boys (a boxer) signed off by heart failure at 14 years. It hit me like a haymaker to the gut, but I thanked him for loving me all these years, and for staying as energetic and puppylike as ever even in his twilight years. He never let arthritis slow him down, and when we cremated him, I drank to his memory and vowed to keep pushing forward with the love he taught me. If he could keep a smile on his face, so should I, no matter what comes my way.

@namvoo Shit man, there's no good way around it, just through it. Give yourself time to remember all the good times and give your dog the proper send off. It sounds insane now but honestly the only thing that worked for me was to get another dog. Dogs are one of God's greatest gifts and they only break our hearts once. You can't ever regain what you had, but with time you may find something new that's beautiful in its own way.
