So it turns out that that study on CSAM on the fediverse is almost entirely based on one particular Japanese instance that most other instances have blocked, and it's mostly lolicon not anything produced through actual child abuse

Like it's not that this isn't a serious problem that people on the fediverse need to talk about, but it needs to be talked about in a way that is actually useful to usPrincipally, how much is this a problem on the actually-federated fediverse and how much is it simply on the defederated-to-oblivion instancesIncidentally, apparently the place where it was found the most outside of the defederated-to-oblivion instances was mastodon.social

@sam I was going off the thread by the guy who wrote the study, he didn't say there was no CSAM just that it was mostly lolicon, and also that a couple standard blocklists would reduce the problem by 87%
