Do the folks planning or having holidays in Greece connect the tragedy there to “green policies” like ULEZ here?Until they do, I really fear for the logic chain of negative impact -> vote -> policy -> positive impact.

@matthannon it’s frustrating isn’t it. What should the (next) government do? We’re driving (#EV via electric Eurotunnel LeShuttle) with our little boys to mid France 🇫🇷 this summer, & when looking, I remember flight prices to places like Spain 🇪🇸 and Portugal 🇵🇹 during school holidays were already astronomically high. You’d think that would be enough, but I’m not sure price is a big a problem for lots of people, thereby increasing the need for other measures.

@Stephencrown I also wonder when the tour operators will take climate seriously. Why?They are one of the biggest drivers of tourism Carbon but climate is also starting to wreck their business model.Who wants to holiday in Dante’s Inferno?

@matthannon indeed. I guess they could be forced to “score” holiday packages a bit like the food labelling system?Or go further and provide detailed CO2e Big buildout of high speed electric rail (decades) and EV based bus networks (buses are more modular, scalable) is needed amongst other things too with a push towards these. The scale of flights I suspect dwarfs what the other methods can accommodate in the short and medium term though. Is there any analysis on this?

@Stephencrown tour operators are the users of infrastructure. Tourists their customers. It would need a trade association move to apply pressure but this is counter-intuitive when it would represent such massive disruption to their tried-and-tested, tight-margins business model. It won't happen IMHO. They're much more likely to play it down and shift focus onto other destinations that pose less of a climate risk (if such places exist anymore).

@matthannon How would lowering car numbers in England cause a heatwave in Greece? Surely it's the millions of cars spewing fumes that do that?

@sinabhfuil it's pushing back on ULEZ that's the issue.

@matthannon The votards still have not figured out that free stuff from government = higher taxes = higher prices.
