Where did the idiom “hold the phone” originate? Wrong answers only, please. 🤪#HoldThePhone #WrongAnswersOnly

@matt they used to have a problem with people putting down the phone when there was a wait so it was a propaganda campaign started by the big phone to make calls more efficient and reduce operating costs.

@matt People waiting by the landline often wanted to run small errands during the long wait times, so they asked anyone around them to please hold their phone while they went off to the toilet, laundry room, or the the garden for a snooze.«Hold the phone, please.»«Sure, wh– Hang on, where are you going???»It was rude to let the phone ring alone, so anyone caught in the trap had no choice but to stay by the phone or trap someone else using the same method.

@mattDrøbak. Because they like to make random claims about what originates from there (apparently Santa Claus lives in Drøbak 🤷)
