My big scary commie pinko hot take is that for-profit entities should not be able to own residential properties. Housing co-ops, renting out a room in your single-family house, that sort of thing is fine, but allowing critical infrastructure like housing to be controlled by corporate interests is society sabotaging itself.

@mos_8502 I don’t think utilities should be owned by private corporations either.

@mos_8502 +1 nothing that is an essential part of living should be controlled by for-profit entities without*heavy* oversight. Same goes for food staples, gas, water, etc

@voxpopsicle thing is, under the hypothetical where everyone has adequate food and clothes and housing and entertainment for a decent, dignified minimum standard of living, I’d be fine with capitalism for luxury goods, at least on a temporary basis.

@voxpopsicle the bit disagreement is what constitutes an acceptable dignified minimum. For me, it’s you own apartment, an internet connection at a civilized speed, enough food in the fridge at all times, and clean clothes to wear every day. I’m fine with more than that requiring work, but anything less is society failing at its job.

@voxpopsicle Can’t work? No worries, here’s the basics and a reasonable amount for comforts. Don’t want to work? No big, enjoy the apartment and food and porno, at least you’re out of the way. Want a bigger place, nicer stuff, fancier foods? Well, here’s a list of open jobs you can try, let us know which ones appeal to you.

@bitcrush_io @datashed When I rented, I made it clear to the landlord that I would not be waiting for them to fix whatever breaks. I would fix it myself, and deduct the cost from rent, submitting receipts for expenses, and if they didn't like it, too fucking bad.
