Schools - No teacher should be required to keep a child's transition secret from parents. If it is argued that parents "might be abusive" it has to be asked why safe-guarding procedures are not already underway regarding that parent. Schools may not independently brand parents "abusive" without evidencing procedures that they have taken against a parent they believe to be abusive.REMEMBER It only takes ONE teacher stating that they will not keep the secret to bring down the possibility of hiding transition from parents. #bethatteacher and encourage the teachers you know to be that teacher by being clear that you would support them in whatever capacity you have: parent, student, fellow-teacher.

@NeedaGin > No teacher should be required to keep a child's transition secret from parents.Agree 100% to this wording; it should never be a blanket policy to hide it (or anything else for that matter) from parents. If there's reason for suspicion that the parents may be abusive, that's a different matter and has to be handled sensibly in a case by case basis.

@NeedaGin If you're a parent, get one of these and give it to the head/deputy/teacher most likely to be open to hearing a GC argument.Handing over in person is better than emailing. Make it personal. Tell them about your own, or your child/relative/friend's experience of being same sex attracted or GNC and tell them how instant affirmation and secrecy would have made things worse, not better.https://www.transgendertrend.com/transgender-schools-guidance/

@taylan If there's reason for such a suspicion, safeguarding procedures should already have been begun.
