Over the weekend, I had a hankering to play some old games that only run on my old Intel Mac laptop. I plugged it in and it wouldn’t charge or turn on. Oh well, it’s 10 years old and that’s the way it goes sometimes.Just now, my M1 Mac Mini just turned off and will not turn on again. My backup laptop is dead, so the newest working computer I have is now a G4 Cube, from 2001. Good enough? Will I be able to access Mastodon on it? 🤔😉

@john Last time I used a G5, I found most "appy" websites exceedingly slow, even with the most up to date PowerPC-compiled version Firefox...

Dang it, the Cube won’t turn on either! I have NO COMPUTER. This has not happened since that tense half an hour I had in 2005 when I replaced a failing hard drive in my laptop.Is this what it feel like to be floating in space?

@john what a terrifying thought. But do you still have a working smartphone? Is that how you're posting here? Or a tablet?(in my mind, all these things mentally fall into the category of "computer", though their functionality is less in some areas and more in others. )

@llewelly yes I have an iPad Pro and an iPhone, so I’m not bereft of internet appliances. I do not think of them as computers.I actually forgot I have a Raspberry Pi, but I ruined its hdmi ports with a broken cable ( it was actually a case of a hardware virus!) so I can’t easily set it up as a real computer.

@john@packbawky I have a third party pencil that's very simple, but maybe I'll snipe one off of eBay. My notes are illegible chicken scratch generally, and the glorified stick I'm using isn't helping. 🫣

@john Internet Explorer… yikesRealPlayer… screamsPS If Firefox doesn’t, for a browser that might work still, try iCab or OmniWeb. You can download versions of iCab that are compatible with old Mac OSes all the way back to OS 7.x.
