I think thet hing I will miss most about switching away form Apple platforms is @ivory It's in a real software sweet-spot for me: it's made to be really _nice_, but works with standardised protocols. I'm happy to pay for the extra work that it takes to make things just so!

@HeavenlyPossum its hard to know what Harris would have done in the situation, because she was not allowed to break with Biden during the campaign.But I'm pretty sure the current Trump aim is that there will be no Palestinians in Gaza. There is no resistance at all coming from the White House on maximalist genocidal/ethnic cleansing aims. This will get worse.

@drmambobob @mike @Gurre I don’t think so, all the arguments against ranks apply to the “species” level as well. The only special thing there is interbreeding, which applies to a subset of life and is a complete mess anyway.

My pet peeve today:The #AdobeIllustrator “Magic Wand” tool, which selects similarly styled objects, has terrible defaults (kinda similar colour), and doesn't remember the settings you choose between sessions.This bug has been in Illustrator for at least _20 YEARS_.

Programming languages, I've tried a few. PHP, Javascript, Python, Nim, Rust (briefly), and Go. I've variously thought they are too yucky, warty, ugly, complex, or just plain too hard for me. I've never found my fit.I'm starting to think that #Lua might be what I've been looking for... crazy?

@SnoopJ The simplicity is a huge bonus for me. I'm finding that I can read other people's code! With with Python and more so Javascript, there's always lines where I'm like WTF did you just do there? Is that even valid syntax?I think Go has a somewhat similar simplicity, but its much noisier because of typing and syntax.
