I’m not sure what a viral post looks like here on Mastodon. It’s hard to gauge on terms of raw numbers. But I’ve had a few recently that have been reposted a whole bunch of times. The one commonality: my mentions are full of discussion, not rage. The discourse is thoughtful. This is in stark contrast to certain other online venues.

There are also some who say that she occasionally works as a Walmart greeter as part of a sinister plot to wreak revenge upon an enemy.Others say that she is to thank for the single greatest web browser ever, written only using her left hand, just to challenge herself.

@DavidNielsen And, to be exhaustive, she once dated John Mastodon.When John went back to where he came from, she dedicated her life to boosting good stuff on the network that bears his name.She awaits his return to this day. @craiggrannell Only been here since January and have maybe 1/3 the (minuscule) followers I did on the bird site, but already had some great conversations.Feels more like early internet days - gradually finding one’s tribe, as it were, of people who want to converse and enthuse about shared passions.

@baldur I once posted on Twitter that it would be nice for cyclists to offer the same consideration for pedestrians that they would like from cars. This came after one again went within probably 5cm of running down our small dog, belting along at top speed on a path from the station, next to a road *with* a cycle path. My mentions were unusable for days. I got everything up to actual threats of physical violence. Maybe that could happen here too, but it just doesn’t feel like it.
