       @ScottSoCal @pathfinder @actuallyautistic For me it was not being so effervescent, exhuberant, hiding my light under a bushel. People were intimidated by, were jealous,  or competed with me, so fitting in meant being 'less than' I am. Shaking that off late in life. They didn't love me either way.

       @JoBlakely @ScottSoCal @pathfinder @actuallyautistic ne too. I can be too much for some people, although some people obviously find my company challenging but exhilarating. But they also find me a mystery. Which is frustrating because its so logical to me

       @Fizzfizzpopop @JoBlakely @ScottSoCal @pathfinder @actuallyautistic Being "too much" is a superpower.I absolutely love being "too much" for fascists, racists or predatory types who want to crush all that is beautiful and fragile in this world.I have no problem whatsoever being a professional-level PITA while defending my values...and that is what makes me a decent autism advocate.Don't like me? Thanks for letting me now...and now, go bother someone else. I think I'll survive.

       @JoBlakely @Fizzfizzpopop @ScottSoCal @pathfinder @actuallyautistic I suppose "nobody will like you" can be some sort of appeal to our insecurity and fear of abandonment when they see something about us that they envy. A promise, that if we shrink ourselves, the herd will tolerate us.To me, having a couple of friends who truly like me is plenty. For a while, I was all alone in the world, and that was okay as well. Definitely far less painful than shrinking myself in hope of being tolerated.

I didn't panic but continued just to be myself.Universe hates vacuum. I knew that if I just continued to be myself and exercised patience, in time right kind of people would start showing up.I was right. It is incredibly toxic, in fact, downright dangerous, to try to please and see acceptance of anyone who *might* tolerate you.
