       @disappearinjon I suppose there is some economy of scale but if the battery from iFixit is only $54.99 then the value of the rest of the device is hovering around $40. That's just crazy.

       @vees You can DIY for about $55 (https://www.ifixit.com/products/ipad-air-2-battery) but it requires patience because Apple uses a *lot* of adhesive inside (hence the 'iopener' water bottle thing to soften it up).

       @wt8p I looked at the iFixit instructions and that was a big nope from me. I just wish I had factory reset it before the battery refused to work because now I need to open it up anyway to destroy.
