I just spent 20 mins figuring out why my Windows system has been refusing to go to sleep the last two days; just staying full on, full fans, full monitor burn-in, etc. No screen saver, or standby when I walk away.Turns out that Steam is currently having a sale of some kind. The client, which I don't want, but MUST be installed and running to launch most games, is playing some sort of ad video in the client, promoting the sale. Because a video is playing, all OS power management is disabled.

As if I needed yet another reason to dislike Steam's anusware DRM client.

@SirBemrose You keep the client running when you're not actively playing something?

@SirBemrose at least they make their catalogue playable on Linux. The client has always been clunky.

@skypage I don't leave the UI up, but it has a daemon, so shutting it off generally involves task manager. Given that I launch games daily, it always seemed easier to leave it running. That was before it started fucking with my system stability, though. The software also has a big banner at the top, counting down the days until they fully cut off my access to my digital library unless I give more money and control to Microsoft, so I'm extra annoyed at these fucks rn.

@SirBemroseSteam has an icon in the system tray, just right click and hit exit (can make it always visible in the tray, too). Can also disable Windows setting it as a startup item. I do that with all the stupid game launchers

@SirBemrose They updated the client recently and if it wasn't chromium based before, it is now. There were several people complaining on the official forums that it was using 800-1000mb of RAM as long as it was open.
