The problem with people wanting moreΒΉ privacy on #mastodon / #fediverse, is that the standart itself is not excatly designed to π‘šπ‘Žπ‘₯π‘–π‘šπ‘–π‘§π‘’ that, #activitypub was created with an apporach to standardize an open system/interoperability firstΒ² and then addΒ³ many many boundaries⁴ later when needed.ΒΉ it's not wrong, btwΒ² as opposed to π‘€π‘Žπ‘™π‘™π‘’π‘‘ π‘”π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘‘π‘’π‘› social mediaΒ³ so much software β„Žπ‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘‘π‘’π‘›π‘–π‘›π‘” needed to achieve this⁴ potentially will break the compatibility in the network

The funny thing is if we go hard on the privacy side of remaking social media, we will eventually ended up π‘Ÿπ‘’-𝑖𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 closed system social media (a la walled garden) *gasp*So it's not that smart either to do that. πŸ˜‚

The idealistic goal for #activitypub standard is not maximum #privacy but optimal privacy, so there's a maximum interoperability amongs many platforms

Theoritically If #threads ends up joining #fediverse via #activitypub open protocol, we will have choice to optimize the privacy by not using their software /spyware app, and use opensource software instead

@tsetiady Something FOSS wouldn't be a walled garden because if someone felt it was too privacy orienented they could fork it to be what they want.
