       @freemo Dear Dr. Freemo: I know that spring and summer times we often experience skip on citizens band radio frequencies. So maybe it is happening on VHF also? VHF radio waves occupy band between 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz).A CB radio's frequency range is 26.965 – 27.405MHz and is broken up into 40 channels, with 10kHz steps. AM and FM signals can both occupy this same frequency band, traditionally used for AM and Single Side Band (SSB) modes. What causes radio skip?When operating at frequencies just below the maximum usable frequency, losses can be quite small, so the radio signal may effectively "bounce" or "skip" between the earth and ionosphere two or more times (multi-hop propagation), even following the curvature of the earth. DUCTING, rather than SKIP, does occur FREQUENTLY on VHF and UHF frequencies due to colliding weather fronts (hot/cold, etc.). With DUCTING, signals can travel many hundreds of miles hugging the curvature of the earth. DUCTING is most common on VHF and UHF frequencies (30 MHZ and higher).I am giving this information for people who are not familiar with Ducting & Skip.
