@markusl No, there would be no “lock in” with #Threads. #Meta will allow people to export their accounts elsewhere, although currently #Calckey (whose name is changing) would realistically be the only platform that could import the data from other #Fediverse accounts.But by allowing an open door, people will probably not feel the need to ever leave, as they would always have a “plan B.”

@pavo @darnell @markusl outward account migration is one of the things the CEO of Instagram has mentioned a few times in interviews, so I would expect it. It goes with my theory that this is about avoiding monopoly legal troubles.

Getting broken up is one of the serious fears tech giants have, I think, because there’s reasonable bi-partisan support for it (plus it’s probably a good idea, and they know it).Microsoft took it pretty seriously back when they were under pressure. Meta will too.

@darnell @jeena @markusl The #Fediverse brings a lot of users who have been here for a while and are not using #Mastodon as a springboard or temporary haven because it has become uncomfortable on #Twitter a space where they can escape the grasping arms of the big corps and finally set up a space where they can feel comfortable again. And I don't want this space to be destroyed by a company like #Meta that wants to either absorb or even destroy the #Fediverse Because I don't see that they will serve the Fediverse in an altruistic way.
