       My latest watercolour of Laycock village.The shadows dried lighter than I expected. This is something I’m struggling with; one painting will be too light so I try to darken it a little and the shadows become nearly black and the cycle continues. I keep practicing but haven’t achieved consistency. At least it looks light and airy. I was considering a wash over part but I’m not convinced it would work and my wife instructed me to leave it alone!#Watercolour #Watercolor #urban #landscape #painting #art(And sorry to those people that follow me elsewhere who have already seen this, I’m just trying to join in on Akkoma.        @ianjago I think the shadows look good from what I can see.  Maybe it looks different in person but I like it. I’m just learning watercolor so I can’t give any helpful advice, sorry.

       @catherinefeeney Thank you. There seems to be a trend to darker and more contrast in watercolour. I quite like the lighter style, many of the paintings from years ago were lighter too so that’s perhaps why.

       @ianjago my watercolors tend to be light as well. When I use the watercolors out of a tube I can get more intense and saturated colors but usually I paint with my travel set which is just the dried colors. I also want to paint with watercolors the way do with my oils 😂

       @catherinefeeney I’ve never tried oils and sometimes think they’d be easier!I want my watercolours to be transparent, fresh, airy. Somehow I would need to increase the tone of a large percentage of the overall painting, but then I don’t like the colours or the magic of watercolour.We can only keep trying.

       @ianjago you should try oils sometime. They are my favorite.
