My latest watercolour of Laycock village. The shadows dried lighter than I expected. This is something I’m struggling with; one painting will be too light so I try to darken it a little and the shadows become nearly black and the cycle continues. I keep practicing but haven’t achieved consistency. At least it looks light and airy. I was considering a wash over part but I’m not convinced it would work and my wife instructed me to leave it alone!#Watercolour #Watercolor #urban #landscape #painting #art(And sorry to those people that follow me elsewhere who have already seen this, I’m just trying to join in on Akkoma. The extra characters here are liberating and I have the room to explain - I like that a lot.)

@catherinefeeney Thank you. There seems to be a trend to darker and more contrast in watercolour. I quite like the lighter style, many of the paintings from years ago were lighter too so that’s perhaps why.

@catherinefeeney I’ve never tried oils and sometimes think they’d be easier!I want my watercolours to be transparent, fresh, airy. Somehow I would need to increase the tone of a large percentage of the overall painting, but then I don’t like the colours or the magic of watercolour. We can only keep trying.
