I have an increasingly horrible feeling that in the next 10-15 years we are going to see some liberal democracy turn into a Hungarian-style "illiberal democracy" (or something even much worse). Which country will be next? UK, USA, France, Germany, Spain, Italy?#Politics #Democracy #TheNewRepublic@politicaltheory @politicalscience "How Viktor Orbán Built His Illiberal State" by Zsuzsanna Szelényi (2022)."Political language is radicalized, elite polarization is toxic, political tribes are firm, the distribution of state resources is perverse, and democratic institutions are subverted."https://newrepublic.com/article/165953/viktor-orban-built-illiberal-state

@Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscience Yes this is definitely worldwide, and the US is ramping up to the same status. My belief is that politics should be removed from all forms of leadership, whether national or local. It's just a poison that eats away at government from the inside out.

@the_Effekt @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscienceI honestly don’t understand what you mean here: politics and leadership are inextricable.

@TruthSandwich @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscience It does seem that way, and the politicians themselves are dedicated to hardening that belief. In reality, politics are only a layer over government function. It allows people to assign themselves to a certain camp, to redirect blame to the party instead of the person, thereby removing accountability. It allows group unification of a set of values within that camp, so there are more avenues available to pass successful legislation. But functioning of government is filtered through politics but does not rely on them even though the politicians want you to think otherwise.Politicians are like a middleman, like DoorDash, or Spotify. And you can even say their maneuvering enshittifies the government. Remove politics, the government is still there.Removing politics shifts the onus of responsibility to the person. It invalidates party based voting, the filibuster, lobbying, the parliamentarian, and so much more.

@the_Effekt @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscienceThat’s not what politics is.Politics is the balancing of interests. It’s not an additional layer on top of governance, it is governance.Everything below that is just execution.

@TruthSandwich @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscience To you all who responded. Thanks for helping me clear up the difference. Sorry about that. I should have said "political parties" not politics in general. They seem so intertwined that I ended up lumping them together. So wherever you see "politics" insert "political parties" instead. The removal of political parties and letting all candidates run on their individual values is what I was trying to convey.

@the_Effekt @TruthSandwich @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscience are you saying that all that’s keeping Nazis from stomping my school, home, life is the fact that they pretend they are in a party called GOP?🤦‍♀️ Here’s a better suggestion: leave the parties, take the money out of politics.

@edgeoforever @TruthSandwich @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscience Nope, that strayed from the subject. Removing the political parties will weaken the tier of power that politicians have with their group. They become independently accountable and will have to answer for their actions. This will help remove Naziism and Racism but it wasn't the subject I was focusing on. Not for this post.

@edgeoforever @the_Effekt @Barros_heritage @politicaltheory @politicalscienceMoney is necessarily a part of politics. The problem is when the money is dirty, such as the obvious bribes that various Justices received in return for staying true to the far-right agenda.
