I wish more people would fight for #Podcasting the same way people are fighting for the #Fediverse. #Meta, #Tumblr, et al, are saying that they're joining the Fediverse (I'll believe it when I see it) and everyone is trying to figure out how best to deal with that.Meanwhile, #Spotify and #YouTube have already #EEE #Podcasts by adding music podcasts that don't sync to #RSS feeds and not providing #VideoPodcasts with RSS feeds at all. No one is batting an eyelash about that!#rant

@kellyn I'm not sure what might be the solution for this but I'd be remiss to not mention that @Castopod's doing some great work in the Podcast realm.Beyond the (obvious/unfortunate) advertising push places like Apple are doing to associate podcasts with platforms like theirs, there is – for the average person, I think – less cognitive overload to think of podcasts as something you get from somewhere.Alt. sources, such as Castopod, may may keep that easy association w/o curtailing freedom?

@Swanye @Castopod I'm not 100% sure myself but I agree that Castopod is a great innovation. ActivityPub and RSS together definitely has the potential to keep Podcasting on the map in the same way that Mastodon does for microblogging.Of course technology isn't enough. People need to be educated on what Podcasts actually are so people can go to other RSS and ActivityPub based platforms.

@kellyn @caycedo We've been through this loop before. Spotify's billion dollar podcast play failed to reach profitability. YouTube only cares about video. A very small percentage of podcasts. The cheap money that funded big budget productions has dried up. We've built solid base of decentralized apps and feed generators. See podcastapps.com with more features and realistic monetization models independent of Silicon Valley and Hollywood The Podcast Industrial Complex is dead

@adam @kellyn I guess the podcast industrial complex is a really small share of the podcast universe.I still do my podcast as excited as the first day. Thank you Adam.
