Please settle this argument for meThe most important part of the pizza is very clearly the crust right? I'm being told I'm going to get got in the comments and I don't agree

@vriska A bad crust will certainly ruin a pizza.

@vriska mmmm I disagree. You need a good crust to have a good base for the pizza, but if the sauce or toppings are subpar you still end up with a subpar pizza. All components need to be good

@vriska yes because unlike the rest of the pizza, it's got a very well defined flavor, everything else is too mixed up and in small quantities so you'll mostly taste the cheese or the sauceso the crust should be tasty and preferable with a sausage in it

@vriska Absolutely the crust is the most critical component. If the crust is bad the pizza is bad.

@vriska Yeah it's the foundation of the entire pizza, the difference between a good and great pizza is 100% in the crust

@vriska theres no most important part to a pizza, all of it has to come together in equilibrium to be good. but the crust needs to be sturdy to hold up the sauce, cheese, and topings

@vriska definitely crust, because if I had to do a blind taste test of pizzas from different places I've been to, crust would be my main way of telling them apart

@vriska Absolutely. I tried making my own pizza a bunch of times and I've never been able to figure out what I need to do to get proper pizza-flavored pizza crust, so I stopped. Eating the failed attempts felt like punishment.

@vriska this is a difficult question, because while a pizza absolutely lives or dies by its crust, the crust can also be quite variable and still achieve very different successful outcomes- whether it’s standard or stuffed crust, or cracker thin crust, sicilian or any other. I think it’s the water content of the dough that informs the crust quality, regardless of which style you go with. So in an indirect way you’re right, the crust is still the foundation of the whole thing, but the emphasis is weighed more against what you’re producing it from than what it is contributing to.

@vriska If you leave off the cheese, is it still a pizza? If you leave off the crust, is it still a pizza? Q.E.D.
