@ericbrignac @Popehat @mmasnick @pluralistic the rule of goats is essentially if someone does or says something, does it really matter if it is with irony or for the lols? Even if you fuck goats as a joke, you’re still a goat fucker. So it’s about public persona and perhaps playing a character vs. the “real” person and if in the end it makes a difference.

I recalled this piece in the LA Times by @Popehat where he talks about the legal application of the rule of goats, where drawing the line between public and private personas can be tricky and have had mixed results in the courts.
