@AnimeTradCath @demitasse I don't know any quotes off the top of my head but its definitely not a high one. Hitler was an authoritarian who only made use of the democratic total state. Hoppe would have definitely preferred a restoration of the monarchy.

Thus, they often will engage in highly authoritarian policies that don't work out well in the long run. Think Stalin's Great Terror. A monarch on the other hand, has a strong institution backing him. Thus, his time preference will be lower and his hand lighter.

Hitler had the will of the people but could easily have obtained the authority of God. He spoke of his mission to his siblings and believed God was favoring him. He could've ascended to monarchy if he wanted.I think these distinctions get muddied at some point and it's a matter of naming only. If Hitler had succeeded and raised a son who was popular enough to succeed him it would've been almost entirely the same as monarchy.
