Give me a Pixel Mini with the Pixel Fold's front display, a single camera, a perpetually last-gen Tensor or 6/7 Gen Snapdragon, and minimum viable storage/RAM/etc. specs for $350. The Pixel has a gap in its current lineup for a free-on-carrier-contract $250-350 device, and I think this would be... Maybe not a blanket "winner" but a way to capture what seems to be a curiously viable market.

I am generalizing, there is a lot more nuance here on both the required specs, partner requirements for carrier-first marketed devices, and the costs involved — guaranteed the LTPO 120Hz front display in the Pixel Fold is way too expensive for a device like this. But I do think that if Google is ready to be a mature Android OEM, it is a gap in the lineup and it could deliver value if done right. After all, Google always did cheap phones better.

@ryne dude my problem is I would still pay like $500–600 for a proper Pixel Mini that worked well and took good photos. But I guess I’m an outlier. At least the flagship Pixels are getting eeeeever so slightly smaller with each generation? In another ten years, they’ll be one-handable again!

@cassidy the new Zenfone 10 I am very excited for. Price is killer, specs look great (except no LTPO), and size is good enough!

@ryne @cassidy $1,300AUD now that's a price I'm never going to be willing to pay! Looks like a great phone but that's insane. It's even smaller than my Pixel3a which is great.
